To escape the cold weather, we’ve found five gorgeous homes that spend year-round basking in all the glory of the sun. These are the five desert homes we wish we could live in until summer's heat returns!
1. Alber Residence
Location: Paradise Valley, Arizona
Architecture: The Construction Zone
If we’re going to the desert, we’re expecting a pool! So, we wouldn’t mind living poolside at this 35, 000 square foot, modern home in the Sonoran Desert. The homeowners get to enjoy a spacious open living room and kitchen that overlooks their own full-length reflective pool.
2. Black House
Location: Yucca Valley, California
Architect Firm: Oller & Pejic
When the property where The Black House now stands was first settled, a mountain was blasted and cleared to make room for development. For some reason, the location stayed empty for 40 years until Oller & Pejic were hired to design a luxury home there. The design is all-black because it's meant to represent the shadow of the mountain that once dominated the landscape.
3. The Desert House
Location: Desert Hot Springs, California
Architecture: Marmol Radziner Architecture
The Desert House is a prefab prototype home design by architect duo Ron Radziner and Leo Marmol. With this project, they want to make their high-end residential designs available to a larger market. If that’s the case, we’ll take two. Throw away the receipts!
4. Scott Pask Retreat
Location: Tucson, Arizona
Renovation: Scott Pask and Robert Navis
Photography Credits: Stefan Ruiz
Tony award winner, Scott Pask, recently renovated this abode-style home that was originally built in 1968. Pask, who resides in New York, wanted a retreat that pays homage to his childhood in Arizona, and we’re almost positive, a place where he can escape New York blizzards.
5. Hanley Holiday Home
Location: Joshua Tree, California
Architecture: Whittaker Studio
The director of American Psycho and Virgin Suicides, Chris Hanley, will own this home that’s constructed from strikingly placed shipping containers when it completed later in 2018. The 2000-square foot masterpiece will be Hanley’s holiday home, so we’re looking into squatter rights between his stays.
