Commercial interior designers and architects are the ones responsible for all the beautiful restaurants we get to eat at, the chic shops we browse, and the perfectly flowing offices we work in. Without them, our urban world would be a mess. There are tons of talented commercial firms out there but we know of five who are doing work so good, we can’t ignore it! We love seeing what their creativity produces, and we know you will too.
Bidgood + Co
Bidgood + Co is known for the creative approach they tackle their projects with. Each space they design has an artistic touch that makes the space distinctly its own entity. We fell head-over-heels for the repetitive cross pattern they made for Citizen Clothing’s displays. By changing the shape of an otherwise typical storage solution, they made it a unique treasure people who visit the store will never forget.
Amanda Hamilton Design
When you first walk into an Amanda Hamilton Design space, you’ll immediately get an excited feeling of just walking into your new favourite shop or eatery because their spaces are just so beautiful! A stand out for us is The Native Tongue Taqueria in Calgary. We’re suckers for a space full of artfully collected reclaimed goods and locally sourced material.
Evoke International Design
Evoke is one of Vancouver’s commercial design heavy hitters, having designed the Vancouver based Pixar office and multiple locations for the successful Noodlebox franchise. The office building they designed for DHX Media, a children’s animation and live-action television producer, is the kind of office we wish we worked in. It is full of collaborative lounge areas and inspiring splashes of colour.
Sophie Burke Design
Sophie Burke Design is best known for their portfolio of elegant and airy residential projects. But perfectly paired with their beautifully curated homes are a few commercial projects that bring their sophisticated aesthetic to retail and public spaces. Misch, a high-end woman’s clothing store on Vancouver’s West 4th Ave, uses mouldings you’d typically see in a traditional home serve as a subtle backdrop in the store’s product displays.
We recently featured another of Sophie Burke’s projects. Check out TuRF – Vancouver’s Latest Addition to the Health and Fitness Community. And, spoiler alert, keep watching our blog to see our next collaboration with the talented team at Sophie Burke Design!
MAK Interiors
MAK Interiors is a growing commercial design firm that has a youthful vibe we’re really drawn towards. We get this the most from their design for Six Hundred Four, the ultra-cool shoe store in Vancouver’s Gastown shopping district. This store has a freshness to it that seems to be a specialty of MAK Interiors. It captures that satisfy crispness of opening a show box for the first time.
